The Chair of Democracy Studies and Public Governance is an endowed professorship of the City of Aarau. Since 1.4.2009, Prof. Daniel Kübler has held the chair at the IPZ and at the same time is head of the Department for General Democracy Research (ADF) at the Centre for Democracy Aarau. The chair studies the functioning, design and performance of democratic institutions. Its staff members deal with the comparative measurement of democracy quality, new challenges for democracy in multicultural societies, problems of democracy in multi-level systems, as well as new forms of citizen participation in established democracies. Another focus of the chair is the international comparative study of selected aspects of politics and democracy in the urban context.
