Sofie Heintz is a PhD student both at the chair of Political Economy of Developing Countries (IPZ) and the chair of Modern Indian/South Asian Studies (AOI). During her BA (2014-2018) she studied Political Science, Islamic Studies and Psychology at the University of Zurich and Sciences Po Bordeaux. She received her MA in Comparative and International Studies from ETH Zurich in 2021. From 2018 to 2021 she worked for Prof. Katharina Michaelowa’s chair as a research and teaching assistant. In her MA thesis she used a mixed method approach to examine how different forms of non-programmatic distributive politics and state capture affect the implementation of a state-subsidized harvest insurance program in India. Her research interests focus on inequality (e.g. in the provision of and access to public and welfare services) and environmental politics especially in South Asia.
