Doreen Spörer-Wagner studied Political Science and Slavic Linguistics in Konstanz, Leuven and St. Petersburg (1995-2002). In 2005, she received her PhD from the University of Konstanz with a thesis on the reform capacity of post-communist states (dissertation). In 2013, she successfully completed the part-time CAS Public Management training at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Doreen Spörer-Wagner held several internship positions, among others at the European Parliament, at the Representation of the Free State of Thuringia to the European Union and at the ALTANA Pharma AG (now Takeda), before starting her work at the National Center of Competence in Research “Challenges to Democracy in the 21st Century“ (NCCR Democracy). There, she conducted research in the field of comparative political communication in consensual democracies (University of Zurich, 2005-2009) and in conflict regions of the Caucasus (ETH Zurich, 2009-2017). She also managed the NCCR doctoral program (now Democracy Studies, 2006-2019). At the University of Lucerne, Doreen Spörer-Wagner taught Comparative Politics, Transition Politics and Political Communication (2006-2019). Since 2019, she has been working as PhD Coordinator Social Sciences for the Graduate School in the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Zurich.
