One of Switzerland’s prime time news outlets, 10vor10, interviewed Stefanie Walter about Switzerland’s election onto the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for 2023-2024.
Stefanie Walter highlighted that small, open economies like Switzerland have a vital interest in upholding the rules-based multilateral order. She emphasized that UNSC membership provides an opportunity for Switzerland to contribute to stabilizing multilateralism and promoting the rule of international law, human rights, and other basic values. Switzerland ist not the first neutral state to hold such a position, but neutrality creates some opportunities that other states do not necessarily have on the UNSC.
