Post-doctoral research position at the Chair of International Relations and Political Economy (PDF, 113 KB) The post-doctoral researcher will pursue his or her own research agenda in the field of international relations, ideally with a specialization on international organizations, international negotiations, or international cooperation more generally. The position is connected to Stefanie Walter’s ERC-funded research project on “The Mass Politics of Disintegration” (, which explores when and how unilateral challenges to international institutions reverberate in other countries. An ability to exploit a large existing corpus of media data on international cooperation using text-as-data methods is an asset. The post-doctoral researcher will produce scholarship with the potential for publication in top outlets; will collaborate with other team members; and will disseminate research results through conference presentations, publications, and other outreach activities. He or she will also contribute to teaching in the fields of international relations (3 hours per week, which translates into a 1-2 teaching load), advising of students and doctoral candidates, and some administrative tasks.

The Zentrum für Demokratie Aarau (ZDA), the University of Zurich’s Centre for Democracy Studies, is inviting applications for a PhD position in political science in the team of the project "Swiss direct democracy in the 21st century" (SDD- 21) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, coordinated by the ZDA and conducted in partnership with the Universities of Bern, Basel, as well as Lausanne. This project is built around a joint data collection effort involving representative population surveys conducted after every federal vote during the project’s funding period.
