Matthias Enggist is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Swiss Politics and Comparative Political Economy. His research lies at the intersection of comparative politics and political sociology, with a particular focus on party competition and public opinion on the welfare state as well as on political geography. He received his PhD from the IPZ in 2022 with his doctoral research focusing on welfare chauvinism and the welfare state stances of radical right parties. From 2022 to 2025, he worked at the University of Lausanne on a project investigating the relationship between regional economic development and political behaviour in Western Europe. Before his PhD, Matthias studied Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz (MA) and Political Science at the University of Zürich (BA). His research has been published in journals such as the European Journal of Political Research, European Political Science Review, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of European Social Policy, The Journal of Politics and West European Politics.
