Jana Lipps is a Senior Researcher and SNSF Ambizione Fellow at the Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich. Her research examines the relationship between international governance and liberal-democratic principles of representation and the separation of powers. In her Ambizione project (2026–2030), she explores when and how border control can be organized in accordance with the principles of the rule of law.

Jana earned her Ph.D. from ETH Zurich in 2021. In 2022–2023, she completed a research fellowship at the Borders and Boundaries Lab at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. Prior to that, she studied at ETH Zurich (MSc), Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (BA), and Sciences Po Toulouse.
