Alessia Invernizzi is a postdoctoral researcher in international political economy working with Stefanie Walter. Her research focuses on contemporary trade policy, both globally and within the European Union, with a particular emphasis on quantitative approaches. Her broader research interests include industrial policy, sanctions, European integration, and international organizations. Alongside her work at the IPZ, Alessia continues to collaborate with Frank Schimmelfennig on an SNF-funded project on European boundary configurations and resources in the European Politics Group at ETH Zurich, where she examines the role of crises and security considerations.

Her work has been published in International Organizations, Journal of Peace Research, and European Union Politics. Her doctoral research, conducted at the University of Konstanz, examined strategic interests in contemporary protectionism through a sectoral approach. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting researcher at UC San Diego, Princeton University, and Tel Aviv University. Previously, she studied at the University of Milano-Bicocca and the University of Konstanz and was a trainee at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade in the trade analysis and evaluation unit.
