She combines comparative and historical methods to study the spread of formal and informal institutions across Europe and surrounding empires from the late eighteenth century onward. She received her PhD from the University of California, Davis, and previously studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Boğaziçi University, and Sabancı University.
