Hiring / Assistierende (Teaching and Research Assistants and PhD Students)

Assistants are employed in a qualification position with a framework of duties. In addition to writing the doctoral thesis in accordance with the framework specifications of the respective faculty, they are also expected to assist in teaching and research and, if necessary, to assist with other chair tasks as long as they are relevant to their qualifications. The source of funding is cantonal funds at the chair.

Basic classification with a university degree/master's degree but without a doctorate (PhD).
For new hires, the starting salary is always salary level 03, regardless of any years of professional experience. No years of employment are taken into account.

General:

  • Minimum employment level: 60% at IPZ from 01.01.2024 (UZH guidelines can vary)
  • Temporary employment
    • 3 years as a rule
    • Possibility of extension by 1 year at a time up to a total of 6 years (§ 15 PVO-UZH), the years as a doctoral student and assistant are added together, regardless of the source of funding
  • Purpose of employment: doctorate (§ 10 c para. 2 UniO), enrolment mandatory

As soon as the doctoral certificate is available and the employment continues, a change of function to a postdoctoral researcher (new standard position) must be made.
